Constellation
Preamble
Constellation is Orion’s capability map: each agent, skill, model, tool, and workflow is recorded with receipts for what it can carry, where it fails, and which pairings have earned trust.
Capability Is A Claim
An agent title is a claim about competence. A model tier is a claim about cost, speed, and judgment. A skill name is a claim about repeatability. Constellation gives Orion evidence for routing before mythology can take over.
The map has to carry limits, observed failures, good pairings, bad pairings, cost, latency, and refusal zones. A capability graph with no receipts becomes astrology: bright labels connected by lines, with little evidence that the stars helped the work.
Capability Needs Receipts
The useful unit is a capability with lineage. A writing agent may handle structure and voice while failing at source grounding. A verifier may catch broken claims and miss taste. A researcher may gather sources and leave the wrong implication untouched.
Constellation should record the task, context, output, failure, repair, and later reuse. That turns an agent from a persona into a tested surface. It also tells Navigation when a strong-looking route is resting on one lucky run.
The Cost Of Picking The Wrong Star
The wrong agent does more damage than a bad answer. It changes the path of the work. It burns context, creates false confidence, and leaves the next agent cleaning up a mistake that now looks like project history.
Constellation moves the judgment into the room assignment. I still have to decide what kind of intelligence the task needs. The map can reduce guessing while leaving the room assignment with me.
The First Real Proof
Constellation becomes real when a future run changes because the map remembers evidence. A role gets demoted after repeated failure. A model moves to a narrower lane. A skill gains a warning. A combination gets promoted because it produces better handoffs across more than one task.
The proof is a routing decision that improves because the old map was wrong in public.
