Preamble

Pretty output can pass before it is aligned. Output Critique slows the review down until polish has to answer to intent, source role, and refusal.


Polish Can Cover The Miss

Generative tools can produce work that looks finished before it has understood the assignment. Polish becomes camouflage. The critique layer has to slow the review down.

The object under review is judged against declared intent, source roles, transfer rules, surface constraints, and explicit refusals. A good critique can say: the color is close, the hierarchy is wrong, the lineage is decorative, the tone borrowed the wrong confidence, or the reference was copied where it should have been abstracted.

Correction Needs A Handle

The critique should return changes a generator or agent can use:

mismatch -> likely cause -> source evidence -> correction -> re-test

Vague disappointment stays with me. Structured mismatch can enter the next pack.

The How Is A Named Mismatch

The critique should turn “it feels off” into a repairable claim:

brief wanted: quiet institutional trust
output did: glossy startup luxury
source evidence: reference used silence and density, output used shine and scale
correction: reduce effects, increase information density, replace hero posture
re-test: compare hierarchy and tone against the brief

That move matters because the model never sees my taste directly. It sees the artifact, the brief, the score, and the correction. If the correction is vague, the next attempt learns the wrong lesson with more confidence.

The First Failed Output

The first proof should begin with failure. Generate an output from a taste brief, identify where it violates the brief, and turn that mismatch into a revised pack.

If critique only says the work feels off, it has failed. If it can name the violated rule, source the judgment, and change the next attempt, Taste has started learning.

The unresolved pressure is authority. Critique can sharpen judgment. It can also train me to trust the rubric more than the thing in front of me.
