Preamble

Source Index is the room where the ghost gets weighed. Every source enters with edition, translation, date, preservation history, excerpt, context, and the reason it was allowed near the fragment.

The Ghost Gets Weighed

Every citation arrives with its own history: edition, translation, date, preservation, excerpt, context, and the reason it was allowed into the fragment. The index records those conditions before the fragment can turn them into atmosphere.

Different Sources Grant Different Permissions

A source can support a phrase, a pressure, a rhythm, a claim, or a refusal. Those are different permissions. The index should show whether the fragment is resting on direct evidence, a cautious inference, a stylistic echo, or an admitted gap.

Hands On The Table

Without the index, the fragment can sound clean while hiding the arrangement that made it possible. With the index, the reader can see the hands on the table.
